Welcome to Fall 2026 and Summer 2027 Team Formation
What to expect
Please note in 2026-2027 the age group will shift to August 1 to July 31.
HFC, along with all youth soccer clubs, will be transitioning to grade-level age teams starting with the 26-27 season based on changes from US Club Soccer. The changes are made to align player ages with the school calendar. While players are never allowed to ‘play down’, they are allowed to ‘play up’. HFC has historically had players playing up to accurately fill teams. This will most likely continue as the transition to grade-level teams takes place within HFC. HFC relies on registration numbers to create teams, and these numbers will not change much specifically for older grade levels. School grade, birthdate, prior team placement and registration numbers will be considered when forming teams for the upcoming season. Players may be moved up a grade level at HFC’s discretion.

Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked Questions:
My player is going to miss team formation but still wants to play with HFC United:
Register for team formation. Within the registration, there will be a section where you can note that you are unable to attend and fill out appropriately. If you are unable to attend, it may impact your child's team placement. We cannot place you on a team unless you have registered.
My player wants to be considered for the position of goalkeeper:
There are no specific goalkeeper sessions. During registration, there is a section to mark your player's preference for goalie. Be sure your player attends the session for their age group.
My player was placed and I disagree with placement:
Follow the 24 hour rule. A parent may review placement with the director of coaching, not for debating placement, but may ask for them review other options and/or bring forward concerns.
As a club, we try our best to create a collaborative player placement experience. However, we are limited by who signs up at team formation(registers), amount of players at a skill level(age group) and overall player skill level.
Why do we have team formation for summer teams in the summer prior to a season?
Most players are at the height of skills after a full summer season. We also need to form our fall teams and try to create teams for summer early on as some teams may attempt a year round team. While we review teams again in January for possible changes, our goal is to have firm team placement in the fall as much as possible.
